OVERDOZE: Played Black Mass in Oklahoma

Here we bring you an interview with the band OVERDOZE, whom played a show at the Black Mass that was held in the civic center in Oklahoma City 09/21/2014. They are based out of Oklahoma City, OK and are considered Punk / Speed Metal / Crossover Thrash.

We are an aggressive, live wire, beer drinking MTHFKRS that combine the power of 80s metal with the energy of 80s punk. Our influences are largely based on Bay Area Thrash Metal, Teutonic Thrash Metal, NWOBHM, Hardcore Punk, Crust Punk, 70s Progressive/Psyhedelic Rock, and Speed metal! We believe in the gods of rock and roll and we aim to bring back the animation and explosiveness that made the 70s and 80s the greatest musical eras!! Hi this is Cristian, founder, leader, bassist and vocalist for Overdoze, it would be my pleasure to answer some questions about the black mass that was held in the civic center in Oklahoma City 09/21/2014.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What religion/philosophy do you consider yourself a part of?

CRISTIAN:

Religion wise I can't really say I like to believe that I might still be catholic, but thanks to history and this scientific world that we live in, kind of contradicts the whole idea of ' one god'. More or less I'm just a free spirit, we do what and get away with it most of the time. You know just don't mess with us and we will leave you alone and I can honestly say that I'm vouching for Ernie ( lead guitarist) and my brother eric ( the drummer). We love

to drink.

CHRIS CHAOS:

How do you feel about Satanism?

CRISTIAN:

To be honest up until September 21st. I didn't think it even existed I thought

it was just a hoax, I didn't know people actually practice anything like it. ( laughs) But Seeing the ceremony first hand, you can see why people get into it at first, and it's pretty much to the idea that it looks fun. (Laughs) It's almost too cheesy.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What do you feel is the biggest misconception concerning Satanism?

CRISTIAN:

The fact that everyone thinks it's bad, because they are showing love to the

fallen one and the bad guy of the story, when in all reality to me. It was

explained that they don't worship satan himself or the satan that we all fear,

but the actual from earlier religions. To me it's simple if your going to

dislike something and fear it at least take the time to understand it and then

judge it afterwards. But as we tend to ignore and recklessly jump into

conclusions.

CHRIS CHAOS:

Tell us of your performance at the Black Mass in September 2014:

CRISTIAN:

It was fun, I think so. ( laughs) we play in crowded places so we are use to

seeing the crowd standing up, so definitely the black mass show will be one to

remember since everyone was seated, half way through our I went out to the crowd

and told them that they should feel privilege in being overdoze first seated

audience ( talk about success) ( laughs). But it was fun we enjoyed ourselves it

felt nice to play In a decent venue again. ( laughs)

I'm not a satanist ( laughs). To clarify things for the readers, the only actual

reason why I agreed for overdoze to play for the black mass. Was as a favor to a

friend of mine who might be high council or an apprentice of the priest, and she

invited us to come out and play for the low cost of gas money and free drinks. (

laughs) Other than that I have no connection with this.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What do you dislike the most about Christians?

CRISTIAN:

When they wake you up on a Sunday morning. Your like f**k it's not cool

specially since your hungover from Saturday night. (Laughs) In all honesty, I

myself don't have anything against any religion.

CHRIS CHAOS:

How do you promote your beliefs?

CRISTIAN:

Spiritually it's hard to say given to the fact that I have emphasized that I'm

not really a religious person. I would have to say just come on out to an

Overdoze show and you'll see what our beliefs and it's good friendly violent

fun. You can tell a lot of what's going on

CHRIS CHAOS:

Were you raised religiously?

CRISTIAN:

Yes I was baptized catholic, but I unfortunately it's been awhile since i have

actually set foot into a Catholic Church.

CHRIS CHAOS:

How does Satanism influence your music?

CRISTIAN:

For lack of a better phrase I would've to say ' satan is cool' it's almost like

a fad in the metal world you got legendary bands like iron maiden, angel witch,

and venom, and not to mention the countless number of metal bands that have

rooted off of them, with sub genres like black metal, Norwegian black metal, and

so on. Although our music is dark and my lyrics aren't as evil as I wish they

could be. Like Deathrow's 3rd verse which is one of our songs it goes ' now I'm

sentenced to death or so it seems,

An eternity full of torture with all of these fiends,

Satan smiles with a red grin,

He welcomes me home to Deathrow'

And it's just explaining what might be going on through an inmates mind after

he's been sentenced to death row for murder charges.

CHRIS CHAOS:

How does your family feel about your beliefs?

CRISTIAN:

I got lots of crap for playing the black mass. When I told my parents about it,

it was almost as if they were disappointed in us. I remember my dad just saying

keep doing your stupid s**t f***er.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What is your goal with your current band?

CRISTIAN:

Our current goal with the band is to keep playing as many shows as we can play

just exploit it, and if it's possible get out on the road and hit it off for at

least a two month tour.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What was your favorite band that you toured/played with?

CRISTIAN:

We had the honor to open up for two legendary bands from the new wave of British

heavy metal and that was diamond head, and Raven. Which was hands down the

ultimate experience for us since we are all great big fans of them.

CHRIS CHAOS:

How did you get started in music?

CRISTIAN:

It started back in middle school when I was learning to play the stand up bass.

Or double Bass if you will, and a friend of mine showed me burned CD of

metallica's kill em' all album which he played Anastasia ( pulling teeth) Cliff

Burton's bass solo, I remember instantly being hip prizes and getting lured into

metal and the rest was history. ( laughs)

CHRIS CHAOS:

Tell us about your 1st band:

CRISTIAN:

Overdoze is my first and only band and I don't think It will ever change. (

laughs)

CHRIS CHAOS:

What instruments can/do you play?

CRISTIAN:

I can sing, play the double bass, bass guitar, guitar, drums, trumpet, violin,

viola, cello, and trombone.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What is your opinion on TST putting

the Baphomet statue up in Oklahoma?

CRISTIAN:

It's going to be different, if most definitely will turn heads, I think the

government will have to watch out. People aren't going to be positive about it.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What is your opinion on the Separation of Church and State issue?

CRISTIAN:

I think it should stay separate.

CHRIS CHAOS:

Do you feel that there was/is a huge network of Satanists standing by to destroy the world?

CRISTIAN:

There might be who knows, it would really suck if the network actually did

exist. But up until now I don't think there's hard evidence on that.

CHRIS CHAOS:

How do you feel when some people say that "Satanic music" causes listeners to

murder, rape, or kill humans/animals?

CRISTIAN:

Music should never be Blamed for the wicked minds of man. Yeah music can give

you an adrenaline rush, and pump you up or make you feel alive. But it's

demented minds that go amongst themselves to hurt the world with fiendish acts.

Why they do it who knows unfortunately broken minds can never be understood.

CHRIS CHAOS:

What other causes do you support?

CRISTIAN:

All the minorities in the U.S. Underground music, gay rights, male and female

equality.

CHRIS CHAOS:

If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?

CRISTIAN:

Our abuse on natural resources. We need to find alternatives before it's too

late for our future generations.

CHRIS CHAOS:

Who are your heroes?

CRISTIAN:

My parents for coming into a new land with nothing but penny's from their old

homes to raising four kids on their own and giving us so much to look forward

to. They help take pride in my roots.

CHRIS CHAOS:

Do you have any inspiring quotes?

CRISTIAN:

' Even if it's impossible, a man should never say that he can't do it or won't

do it' my father Reyes Perez

CHRIS CHAOS:

Is there anything else that you want the readers of this interview to know

about?

CRISTIAN:

Yeah, we will play in your town if you bring the people, drinks, and gas money

to go home after the show. ( laughs)

The Crossroads: Robert Johnson's Deal with the Devil

Many know the story of Johnson supposedly selling his soul to the Devil to become a better Bluesman......

Johnson's wife was pregnant but her and the baby died in childbirth. Understandable Robert was distraught and did not know what to do. He decided to leave town for some time, and upon his return he was a changed man. He could play his guitar like a seasoned vet and his voice was silky smooth, a stark comparison to the terrible musician that the town locals remembered prior to his disappearance. Many attributed his marked progress to meeting the devil during his travel and Johnson sold his soul in exchange for becoming a better musician.

Some new speculation has emerged concerning Robert Johnson and the location of where he made his pact with the Devil.

Modern Crossroads marker

Many fans go to the crossroads at highway 61 and highway 49 in Clarksdale to pay their respect due to them thinking this is the legendary location where the pact with the Devil way made. Some new evidence may suggest this may not be the correct location.

Many of the 80 and 90 year old southern bluesmen along with many historians and blues music researchers suggest that the location Robert was talking about is in Rosedale.

Although of course no one will TRULY know but his song does mention in the lyrics the city: "Going up to Rosedale, got my rider by my side”. But Son House states that he knows for a fact where this deal was made. According to the legendary blues musician he states it wasn't in Clarksdale. The claim is that it was where highway 8 intersects with highway 1.

 

The Devil marks his territory with an "X", the crossroads, According to voodoo claims and legends, the Devil has to hang close to the river, meaning the mark could never be made so far from the river as Clarksdale. Rosedale is located right by the river and this verifies the folklore.

Only the Devil and Robert will only truly know which are the correct crossroads. Truth is that Robert never went to the crossroads looking for the Devil, he was waiting for him as Johnson passed through from Beulah on his way to Helena. The Devil and his dog greeted Johnson here and the dog seized Robert and shook him violently; When he did, the strings in Johnson’s guitar shook and vibrated and the blues emerged from those sounds.

The devil told Johnson, “.....the dog is not for sale, but you can buy that sound.” Robert wanted it so bad, the deal was made. From there, he was a master.

At the age of 27, Johnson died on August 16, 1938, some say that the devil came to collect his due, but others stated that he was poisoned by the jealous husband of a woman that Johnson flirted with.

While strychnine has been suggested as the poison that killed Johnson, at least one scholar has disputed the notion. Tom Graves, in his book Crossroads: The Life and Afterlife of Blues Legend Robert Johnson, relies on expert testimony from toxicologists to argue that strychnine has such a distinctive odor and taste that it cannot be disguised, even in strong liquor. Graves also claims that a significant amount of strychnine would have to be consumed in one sitting to be fatal, and that death from the poison would occur within hours, not days. Contemporary David "Honeyboy" Edwards similarly noted that the poison could not have been strychnine, since Johnson would have died much more rapidly, instead of suffering for three days.

 Who knows the truth though? Science and logic says he got that good through diligent practice, and a natural ability. But the blues (and music in general) was never about Science, was it?

"AMERICA'S MOST RETARDED"

Foreword:
In the early 00's we (Axis Video) were in between projects and decided to take on the America's Most Retarded project before preparing for our next big release. Below includes excerpts from
THE BLOODY RISE OF AXIS VIDEO and a brief history of the AMR films.

One of the most ridiculous films to date has to be a film that I was involved with a few years back in the early 00's entitled "AMERICA'S MOST RETARDED" . 1st we were looking for people with oddball talents to showcase on the DVD, but the people that surfaced to be on this production..we were not prepared for.

During casting we were contacted by a Sam Santoro from Leper-con Productions. He wanted to become the director for the America's Most Retarded series. After some time we learned that Sam was the notorious bandit behind the BMG and Columbia House CD/DVD defrauding. He created many upon many accounts in order to receive their "free" products. Sam amassed a small fortune with his new media collection.

Pre-Jackass and pre-2000, we were all fooling around with the video camera and making others do insane things in front of it. We accumulated many hours of footage but had no idea what to do with it. Flash forward several years we constructed an idea to go back and capture the flavor of what we filmed years before. So we placed ads on social media groups looking for people to film and include on this film we were dreaming up. Many people responded and expressed interest wishing to be included in the film. Three individuals stuck out: Jimmy the Busboy, Lenny the Loon and Leathur Wench Rokk, we contacted them and set up the filming dates.

AMR (#1) was filmed over the course of 4 non-consecutive days and then edited down to about 1 hour. A follow up entitled “Americas Most Retarded 2: Stupid Is As Stupid Does” was later edited into a 2 hour disaster, and many other ‘tards were added into this mix along with left over footage from AMR #1. We found people at the subway in need of a ride and filmed them to include in this disasterpiece. I worked with a guy that I dubbed Clock since his one arm was smaller than his other, just like a clock.

JIMMY THE BUSBOY:
The 1st person that we filmed was Jimmy the Busboy, a sick fuck and a busboy at one of South Jersey's more seedy establishments, The Coastline (owned by a family of Bangladesh). To set the tone and establish the workers and clientele of this location... The DJ was infected with AIDS and had a chip on his shoulder taking different ladies home each night, sleeping with them in the hopes of spreading and sharing his misery.

As Jimmy put it, "I bused tables for a very looong time." It was a chilly evening and we met with Jimmy at his house right next to the bar, he let us in and took us on a tour of his dwelling. He lived with the rest of the workers from the bar crammed into this little house. Jimmy didn't have any beer and we wanted a drink to get though this shoot so we went with him to the bar and made him purchase us some brew. Upon return back to his house the antics increased and his roommates were home, so we had to go and meet them too. I am not sure how many people lived in that house but it appeared to be many based on the industrial mop, 3 over sized fridges and piles of shoes in each room. The stench of stinky fish and rotten feet filled the air as you attempted to take a breath. He also licked dirty mops and shoes, drank bong water and participated in other degrading acts and also volunteered some very disturbing stories from his life.

LENNY THE LOON:
For the 2nd cast member we found Lenny the Loon, who stated that he had a high threshold for pain and falls asleep while getting tattoos. For the 1st day of filming we met him at his place in Mount Laurel when he started on his antics. He stole a neighborhood kids bike, acquired a stun gun for a stunt a little later in the night. He met us at Keith's place and we set out a full day of filming with him due to his wide talents. Lenny's cast-mates were a stun gun, hot sauce and alcohol. Later in the day we went to a local parking lot and made Lenny our stunt dummy and put him in a shopping cart to be pushed into things, he also ate a whole box of ex-lax with plans for him to shit himself in a crowded store and we also made a real life Mario and had him swim in a sewer pipe.

LEATHUR WENCH ROKK:
LWR out of Atlantic City, what a trollop. Where to begin? Hahaha. She came out to audition for a role in our Jersey Devil documentary and her audition turned into material for this film. We met up with her on several occasions because the comic relief that she provided was priceless. I think we still have hours of unused footage of this beast. On one of the days we filmed her on location in AC and one of the more interestingly framed shots was when we came across an AC bum drinking on a bench, so we placed her on a neighboring bench and made sure we could see the bum in the background drinking his liquor. The next meeting with LWR she took the bullet train up and met at Keith's place where she continued in her stories of all of her adventures. She got overly drunk on wine and Everclear and the events that unfolded afterwards can never be discussed..ever again.

When we edited and released AMR we still had a ton of source footage that did not make the cut, so we dumped it into the sequel. Once again we did casting calls and secured more talent to be included in the next installment. We accumulated so much footage over he years, b-roll, outtakes and just plain insanity that we also included. The main new cast member that we added was dubbed CLOCK. His real name was Sean but we called him Clock due to the fact that his one arm was undeveloped and much smaller, resembling the large and small hand of a time telling device.

CLOCK (Sean):
Clock was the nickname given to another special victim whom had a stumpy hand that resembled a chocolate covered pretzel. He reminded me of a clock since his one hand was shorter than the other. I met him at an office job that I once held while in the corporate world. He was fascinated by all the stories that I told about our filming adventures. He would always come to my office and annoy me so one day I told he to come out and we would make him a star. 1st trip was to the Berlin Farmers Market. We went up to the man selling chainsaws and axes and had a little fun with the man asking questions about body bags, duct tape and if the axes could penetrate bone.

THE COUPLE AT THE TRAIN STATION:
I Think we met this couple while dropping LWR's ass off at the train to send her back to Atlantic City, we made them sing, dance and do other acts of stupidity. They needed a ride to a town a few miles away, so we made the deal to drive them in the back of the van if they would have sex and allow us to film it.

The rest of the cast of the America's Most Retarded series are lost to history, you will have to view it to hear their stories.

This film had scenes of Chris and me at the Ozzfest, showing the injuries of Hacky Sack, Drinking Beer (with me upping the ante) and encounter with a rude Buddhist and myself who deliberately spilled my Busch (ugh) beer. The best though was finding a vehicle in honor of Slayer, this pickup truck, came out of hell, red and black, a skull on the exterior antenna, with an ammo belt on the dash, windows down, and not dare fuck with this vehicle."

Dave Brockie's Passing

I woke up this morning to the news that Dave Brockie (Gwar, X-Cops, The Dave Brockie Experience, Death Piggy) passed away yesterday. I had numerous texts from friends and associates that knew that I worked with Dave and included one of his videos on Dynasty of Darkness: Apocalyptic End.

  

As of late there have been many faked and spoofed celebrity deaths listed on the internet, but all sources checked out that Dave really did pass. As of this writing there is not a known cause of death but the authorities suspect no foul play and drugs were NOT present. In the past when Flattus Maximus (Cory Smoot) passed the members of Gwar were at least relieved that drugs were not the cause of his death. Cory's official death was listed as coronary artery thrombosis (Heart attack) brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease. Cory died at age 35. Dave then  stated that he was taking steps in his own life to be a little more healthy and he also planned on quitting smoking. While working with him I never observed him doing any sort of drugs, just a lot of drinking. He even speculated that another popular lead singer (who I will not identify) from a metal band would most likely be the next person to die from over dosing of heroin. He gained this insight from when Dave toured with this band and the person in questions was beyond messed up from doing drugs prior to completing their set.

I had the fortune of working with Dave a few years back when we filmed 2 of his The Dave Brockie Experience shows in the Philly area. While interviewing him I saw a side to him that I never experienced before. He is on every level a true rocker and loved doing what he did creating music and performing up on stage. The passion burned fiercely within him. Hopefully in the coming months I can finally edit up the massive amount of footage that I filmed at his shows and make a fitting tribute for Dave and all the contributions that he made to the music world over his long enduring career.
